Phil started his musical studies playing the electronic organ from
when he was 10. He went on to win several competitions including
Midlands Keyboardist of the Year which led to many performances in
theatres and venues. His musical interests then progressed
towards synthesisers and samplers around the launch of the Yamaha
DX7, when he spent much of his time arranging and orchestrating
music for keyboards using Atari ST's. Growing up, he
was always immersed in film and classical music more so than popular
music which partly explains his understanding and affection of film music.
After several years as a performing musician as a keyboardist and
vocalist he started writing and recording contemporary instrumental
music and then progressed into composing music for picture for which
he has now been writing for several years. His real passion is
working with drama and in helping the director portray the
emotion and enhance the visual representation with music. Phil
has also written music for other mediums such as websites, corporate
productions and DVD's.
Film soundtracks include the feature films:
Veiled Existence, See You At The Altar,
Tombraider : Ascension
Feature film trailer credits include:
Bloodline, Pete Blaggit, Veiled Existence
Corporate clients include:
British Gas, Dunlop, West Midlands Fire Service
Having a grounding in IT together with music allows Phil to be at
the forefront using the latest technology including Vienna
Symphonic Library running over a farm of networked PC's in his
purpose built studio. He is equally at home writing for musicians or
for the sampled orchestra. As part of the Music For Media
organisation he has strong ties with the Birmingham Conservatoire
which he is able to call upon when he requires musicians and
recording facilities outside of his own studio.
Phil is part of the team at
Poseidon TV
for whom he also composes music for picture.
He is also currently working on a primarily string based
contemporary classical album.
As well as composing
Phil arranges music
for string ensembles. |
